City of Minneapolis Eases Fees and Fence Rules on Beekeepers
Permit renewals are free and restrictions relaxed on rooftop hives.
The City of Minneapolis recently announced ordinance changes that make it easier to keep bees:
Now, once the original permit fee is paid, there is no fee for the annual permit renewal. Also, beehives on a rooftop of two stories or higher no longer require nearby building users’ written approval or a fence around them. The changes will reduce significant hurdles for Minneapolis beekeepers and improve the environment while ensuring public safety.
That solves a problem Uptown resident Chris Kulhanek faced last year, according to Minnesota Public Radio:

For Kulhanek, the rules proved too stringent for her to keep bees where she lives. She lives in an apartment building in Uptown and would have needed consent from every renter in her building.
