Three Minneapolis Men Charged with Alleged Maple Grove Burglary

Officers caught up with the three suspects at 48th and Aldrich in Southwest Minneapolis May 15.

Three Minneapolis men have been charged, each with one count, of second-degree felony burglary in relation a May 15 incident in Maple Grove. 

Ronald Desean Harris, 26, of Minneapolis; Sherrick Machon Catchings, 24, of Minneapolis; and Jamal Ajaun Clay-Smith, 22, of Minneapolis, were charged in Hennepin County Court May 17 in connection with the alleged home burglary in Maple Grove. Harris also faces a felony charge of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.

According to the complaint: 

Maple Grove Police responded to a report of a burglary in process on May 15 after dispatch reported a neighbor had observed individuals forcing entry into his neighbors home and “the neighbor believed that the lawful owner was not home at the time.”  Officers later found evidence of “forced entry” into the home.

After gaining entry, the overhead garage door was opened the suspect vehicle pulled into the garage. Officers responded and learned the reporting party observed the suspects pulling out of the garage, according to the complaint. Officers reportedly observed the vehicle pull out of the garage and leave the driveway toward law enforcement.

“Officers observed three males matching the description of the suspects in the vehicle and initiated a felony stop of the vehicle,” Laurel Slawson of the Maple Grove Police Department wrote in the complaint.

The driver, later identified as Ronald Desean Harris, “put the car in reverse and fled,” according to the complaint. Officers pursued with “lights and sirens through multiple jurisdictions” before being stopped. Officers caught up with and arrested the three suspects at West 48th Street and Aldrich Avenue South in Southwest Minnneapolis, according to Maple Grove police.

Property belonging to the homeowner and three pairs of gloves were among the items found in the car.

Harris, Catchings and Clay-Smith remained in custody in Hennepin County Jail as of May 15.
