Thousands in Silverware and Jewelry Taken From Lynnhurst Home

A roundup of crimes and incidents reported by Minneapolis police officers on Jan. 9 and 10.

Thursday night, residents of a house on the 4800 block of Aldrich Avenue South made a startling discovery: a 10-piece set of sterling silver utensils and two pieces of valuable jewelry had gone missing.

The victims of this apparent theft told police the last time they saw the missing items was on Christmas Day when it was used while having guests over. The police report notes there were no signs of forced entry or any obvious signs of theft. 

All together, the missing items were worth $2,600.

Other Incidents - Jan. 10

A Kingfield resident told police they dropped their wallet while walking to catch a bus at the corner of 38th Street and Nicollet Avenue around 9:30 a.m. Their bank reported that an unauthorized transaction made in Maple Grove was later posted to the account.

A Shakopee resident told police her wallet was stolen from a pouch in a stroller she was pushing while shopping at Nu Look Consignment at 50th and Penn. 

A house on the 5300 block of Zenith Avenue South was broken into during the day.

A house on the 3200 block of Grand Avenue South was broken into between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. $300 in cash was taken.

A 66-year old skater on Lake Harriet fell, possibly breaking her shoulder when she hit the ice. The woman was transported to Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.

A 14-year old Southwest High School student reported his iPhone was stolen from his backpack in the boy's locker room.

Other Incidents - Jan 9

A thief attempted to gain access to a van parked at Richfield Lutheran Church around 8 p.m. The vehicle's owner came out of the church while the criminal was going through his vehicle, interrupting the theft.

A large, blue trailer full of construction equipment was stolen from in front of a home on the 4200 block of Harriet Avenue South around 2:30 p.m. Its owner, a contractor, was working inside a house on that block at the time.

Shortly before 2 p.m., a 67-year old woman was booked into the Hennepin County Jail for hanging around the intersection of Nicollet Avenue and 54th Street with an open bottle of vodka. The woman was "bumping into walls" before police arrived.

Police pulled over a car at the intersection of Russell Avenue South and Lake Harriet Parkway for driving with a window broken out. Routine checks showed the vehicle was freshly stolen. The driver, a 14-year old, told police he was a Washburn High School student. The driver was arrested on suspicion of having stolen the car, and his 15-year old passenger was cited for tampering with a motor vehicle. 

A house on the 5200 block of Xerxes Avenue South was forcibly broken into some time over the last two days and "neatly searched."

A van parked behind a house on the 5000 block of Colfax Avenue South was stolen overnight.
