Suspect Charged in June Sexual Assault
The incident occurred June 24, 2013 in near Lyndale Avenue South and West 22nd Street.
A 32-year-old man has been charged with two counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct for a sexual assault that occurred June 24, 2013 in Minneapolis' Fifth Precinct.
According to the Minneapolis Police Department, Demarcus Nasson Chaney was apprehended by the department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team July 30.
On July 10, police released photos of two persons of interest who were caught on camera attempting to cell the victim's phone at World of Wireless on Lyndale Avenue and Lake Street. Shortly after, the lead investigator was contacted by a probation officer and a correctional officer with information about the suspect, according to police.
The other male in the photos was arrested and released after further investigation revealed that the DNA testing in this case was matched to the profile of Chaney, according to police.
The June 24 incident occurred at around 2:20 a.m. near Lyndale Avenue South and West 22nd Street. Another similar incident occurred around 2:07 a.m. June 26 on the 2800 block of Stevens Avenue. No connection has been made to the two incidents.
