Shopper Tries to Steal Cart Full of Groceries in Broad Daylight

A roundup of incidents and crimes reported to the Minneapolis Police Department on Oct. 8 and 9.

Around 4:45 p.m. on Monday, a shopper at the Windom Cub Foods tried to push a cart piled high with $134 worth of groceries right past the store’s registers and out into the parking lot. The 30-year old Bemidji woman was stopped by store employees before she could leave. The woman was ticketed for misdemeanor theft by officers when they arrived.

After conducting a suspicious vehicle stop on the 5600 block of Xerxes Avenue South around 4 a.m., police arrested a man for narcotics violations. The police report offered no further details.

A driver on the 100 block of West 58th Street was cited for driving without insurance after he drove through a stop sign without stopping.

Oct. 8

Around 12:30 p.m., a driver on West 31st Street was cited for driving with a suspended license and without proof of insurance after they failed to stop for a red light and almost struck a police cruiser that was crossing the intersection at the same time.

A house on the 300 block of West 33rd Street was burglarized during the workday. A laptop, camera, and cash were stolen.

A driver on the 5700 block of Grand Avenue South was cited around midnight for driving without insurance after they failed to stop for a stop sign.
