A YMCA Wallet Thief and the Case of the Debit Cards

A roundup of burglaries and other property crimes committed in Southwest Minneapolis during the last week.

March 19

A resident of the 3200 block of Aldrich Avenue reported their vehicle missing. The resident said he had left his vehicle legally parked and that it could not be found at any local tow companies.

A teenager’s wallet was stolen while he played basketball with a friend at the Blaisdell YMCA. The teen had a Wells Fargo debit card in his wallet, but the card has not been used.

March 18

A resident of the 3600 block of Bryant Avenue said she knew who had burglarized her home and that the burglar came through her back door. Police are investigating the incident.

A resident of the ECCO neighborhood was robbed while walking on the 3200 block of Hennepin Avenue. She said the assailant was a white male.

A resident of the 3400 block of Hennepin Avenue was home when someone tried to break into his home. The back door lock was picked at or pried and now sports visible marks and is difficult to open.

A resident of the 3100 block of East Calhoun Parkway had his car stolen from its spot outside his home between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on March 17

March 17

A resident of the 3500 block of Bryant Avenue had two debit cards stolen from his unlocked car while it was parked in a lot behind his home. The cards have been used to make two purchases, and the resident obtained a physical description of the suspect by calling one of the stores where his card was used.

A resident of the 3700 block of Nicollet Avenue suffered a hit-and-run when her car was hit while parked in front of her home.

Nicole Marie Burfield was arrested by a citizen and later released after a theft took place at the Nicollet Avenue Cub Foods.

A car stolen from a St. Paul resident was recovered on the 3200 block of Garfield Avenue. No arrests were made.

A resident of the 3300 block of West 46th Street found his car’s driver-side window broken off while it was parked overnight outside his home.

March 15

A resident of the 5700 block of Upton Avenue reported his car was tampered with while parked in his garage.

A resident of the 3800 block of Bryant Ave returned to his ground-floor apartment and discovered that someone had entered his home through an unlocked sliding window and stolen his property.

A burglar broke into a two-story dwelling on the corner of 39th Street and Pillsbury Avenue by prying open the door, damaging the frame and lock. While one object was stolen from the living room table, cash and other valuables were left alone.

The rims and tires of a Kingfield resident’s car were stolen from his house near 37th Street and Lyndale Avenue. The car was parked behind the resident’s building and he was in his home at the time of the theft.

An old wallet and sunglasses were stolen from the car of a resident of the 5000 block of Logan Avenue while the car was parked outside her home.

A resident of the 4000 block of Pillsbury Avenue found his unlocked car rifled through —but nothing taken—while it was parked outside his house. The “bad guy,” as the resident referred to the perpetrator, emptied the contents of the glove box and armrest onto the seat.

March 14

William Lysell of Minneapolis was arrested after a police officer saw him filling up a stolen car with gasoline on Nicollet Avenue.

A Minnehaha Parkway resident’s bicycle was stolen from his open garage.
