Police Blotter: Burglar Cut Screen Windows to Gain Entry

This blotter covers only a fraction of police reports filed in Southwest Minneapolis from May 8-16. All details come from Minneapolis Police Department reports. The listed date refers to the day the report was originally filed.

May 8: An 18-year-old man was assaulted near the 5200 block of Harriet Avenue South around 5:30 p.m.

May 8: A thief broke into a car on the 4100 block of Lake Harriet Parkway West in the afternoon. The owner's purse was stolen.

May 9: A Texas man was cited for trying to use a handicap parking permit that wasn't his at Cub Foods on Nicollet Avenue South.

May 9: A 29-year-old Robbinsdale woman was cited for using a  handicap permit at Cub Foods on Nicollet Avenue South.

May 9: A Minneapolis traffic control agent found a vehicle stolen from Edina parked on the 5600 block of Garfield Avenue South. It was unlocked and keys were in the center console.

May 10: A car was stolen from the 4600 block of Aldrich Avenue South overnight.

May 10: A car was stolen on the 3900 block of Pleasant Avenue South overnight. The victim said the car was locked and that she still had the keys.

May 10: Yet another car was stolen on the 5300 block of Penn Avenue South during the day. Although the car was unlocked, the victim still had the keys. She said it was not drivable due to bad brakes.

May 10: A women's bicycle was stolen from the garage of a house on the 4800 block of Vincent Avenue sometime in the two previous days. It's British-made, and black with a tan seat and basket.

May 10: Someone broke the window of a car on the 3400 block of Blaisdell Avenue South sometime in the evening. A number of items were taken.

May 11: A 31-year-old Burnsville man was found unconscious on the side porch of a house on the 4400 block of Blaisdell Avenue South after 10 p.m. He was found with loose pills in his pocket, which police later identified as prescription Tylenol and Ibuprofen. He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, then cited for not having prescription pills in a proper container.

May 11: Golf clubs were stolen from the trunk of a car on the 4700 block of Washburn Avenue South on the night leading up to May 8.

May 15: A 26-year-old Minnetonka man was arrested for allegedly burglarizing a business located in an apartment on the 3900 block of Bryant Avenue South.

May 15: Someone kicked out two windows in an apartment at 3500 Emerson Avenue South between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.

May 15: The screen window of a home on the 4500 block of Pillsbury Avenue South was cut open sometime in the evening, although the window was still locked and the thief didn't gain access.

May 15: A car parked on the 4300 block of Xerxes Avenue South was hit and damaged by another car sometime in the afternoon or early evening.

May 16: Sometime in the previous two days, a thief cut the screen of kitchen and living room windows of a home on the 4500 block of Pleasant Avenue South and took multiple items.

May 16: Another burglar tried to cut a screen open on the 4500 block of Pillsbury Avenue South sometime in the previous two days, but failed to gain entry.

May 16: Two bikes were stolen from a garage on the 4600 block of Fremont Avenue South sometime since November. The owner just noticed they were gone.

May 16: An unoccupied car with keys in the ignition was found on the 5600 block of Garfield Avenue South. When police ran it, it came back as a stolen car from St. Paul. The car's owner picked it up.
