'Nervy' Thief Leaves Stolen Packages in Neighbor's Alley

A roundup of burglaries and other property crimes committed in Southwest Minneapolis during the last week.

Thieves took a UPS and a FedEx package from the front yard of a 39th Street home on Friday, April 13. The packages were recovered in an alley on 38th Street and Blaisdell Avenue.

“Pretty nervy,” the resident commented to police.

April 16

A resident of the 3400 block of Emerson Avenue had her three-wheel tricycle stolen from her apartment building. The trike was locked to the building’s railing.

A window was broken and a GPS stolen from a car parked in the alley driveway of a home on the 3400 block of Emerson Avenue at 4:45 p.m. The owner had gone into his home 20 minutes before the theft.

A Minneapolis resident left her bike locked to a snow emergency pole in front of her friend’s house on the 3500 block of Grand Avenue. Someone stole the bike by removing the emergency sign and lifting the bike over the pole. The police report did not mention any details about the bicycle that might suggest why all that effort was worth it.

April 15

A Tag Heuer watch and $500 cash were taken from the car of a Minneapolis man who parked it on 32nd Street. The police report did not specify where on 32nd Street the incident occured.

A home on the 3600 block of Colfax Avenue was burglarized.

April 14

Someone punctured the tires of a resident of the 600 block of Minnehaha Parkway.

A car parked at the corner of Fremont Avenue and 31st Street, near Joyce Church, was broken into and property stolen.

April 13

A man left his car parked overnight in front of his home on the 3500 block of Colfax Avenue and, in the morning, the catalytic converter had been severed from underneath the vehicle.

Two bicycles were taken from a detached unlocked garage on the 4800 block of Grand Avenue.

A home on the 4700 block of Harriet Avenue was burglarized.

Two employees’ wallets were stolen from the basement office of a business at the intersection of 50th and Penn Avenue.

A burglar forced entry into a single-family home on 50th Street. More detailed information was not available in the police report.

A Plymouth resident left her car parked overnight near the intersection of 47th Street and Grand Avenue and woke to find her TomTom GPS and Griffin iTrip missing.

April 12

A burglar broke into a home on the 4900 block of Emerson Avenue.
