Minneapolis Police Seek Tips in Apparent Homicide on Nicollet Avenue South

The Medical Examiner has ruled the death of Michael Duane Portlance a homicide and the MPD Homicide Unit is investigating. There are no suspects at this time and the motive is unknown.

Minneapolis Police are looking for tips that may lead them to a suspect in a homicide that occurred last week in the 2600 block of Nicollet Ave. S.

Police responded at 8:03 a.m. Oct. 4 to a 911 call in the 2600 block of Nicollet Avenue South. When officers arrived, they found Michael Duane Portlance, lying dead on the ground near a fence.

The Medical Examiner has ruled this case as a homicide and the MPD Homicide Unit is investigating. There are no suspects at this time and the motive is unknown.

Investigators are looking for any information about the whereabouts of Portlance in the days and hours prior to his death, as well as any information about his acquaintances and recent roommates.

Portlance was also known as “Sonny.”
