Man Charged with Trying to Run Over Security Guard with Pickup Truck

A Southwest Minneapolis man has been charged with making terroristic threats after police say he drove threateningly toward a security guard at a Minneapolis workforce center after the guard asked him to move his pickup.

Ryan Adler Robinson, 27, who lives in the 3700 block of Garfield Avenue South, is charged with making terroristic threats, a felony with a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, signed by Minneapolis Police Lt. Gregory Freeman, a security officer for the Minnesota Workforce Center on East Lake Street found Robinson’s pickup taking up three parking spaces on Sept. 13.

The officer paged the owner to meet him at the front desk, and Robinson showed up, then returned to a classroom to tell the teacher that he was leaving, according to the complaint.

Robinson walked out to the parking lot, with the security officer following him. Robinson got into his pickup and drove carelessly through the lot, stopping behind a parked car, the security officer told police.

The officer walked up to Robinson’s window and told him he would have to leave, at which point Robinson began yelling and swearing at the officer and revving his pickup’s engine, the complaint says. The officer moved away from the pickup, and Robinson drove directly at him, according to the complaint.

The officer told police that he feared Robinson would hit him with the pickup, and he drew a gun, pointed it at Robinson and told him to stop. Robinson then fled, according to the complaint.

Police tracked down Robinson, who acknowledged that he had been at the workforce center and had a confrontation with the security officer in the parking lot. However, he denied driving at the officer.

Robinson remains in the Hennepin County Jail on a $30,000 bond. He is scheduled to make a first appearance on the charge Oct. 2 in Hennepin County District Court.
