He is scheduled to appear in court on the drug charge on Feb. 21, and on the fleeing charge on March 2.

According to the criminal complaint, compiled by Minneapolis Police Sgt. A woman called police and told them that Chamberlain wanted to turn himself in on the outstanding drug warrant.

When police arrived, Chamberlain jumped into a Pontiac Grand Am and sped away, according to the complaint. Police stopped the car after a brief high-speed chase, and as an officer approached the car, he could smell alcohol on Chamberlain’s breath, the complaint says.

The officer tried to open the car door, but Chamberlain locked the doors, shifted the car into drive and again sped away, pursued by the officer, according to the complaint.

Chamberlain drove through several stop signs on 17th Avenue North and turned off the car’s headlights, according to Simonson’s account, then went through two red lights. He pulled up in front of the Penn Avenue North address, ran into the house and locked the doors.

Chamberlain was subsequently arrested. Simonson’s complaint says he told police that he had used cocaine and had been drinking the night of the incident.

Chamberlain has an extensive criminal history in Minnesota dating back to 1992, including convictions for burglary, theft, damage to property, domestic assault, forgery, credit-card fraud and DWI.
