Man Barges Into 78-Year Old's Windom Home

A roundup of burglaries, robberies, and other incidents in Southwest Minneapolis, reported to police on Aug. 2.

On Aug. 2 near 10 p.m., a man barged into a residence on the 6100 block of Nicollet Avenue, pushing past the 78-year old man living there. The suspect told the victim he was looking for another man, and “damaged an interior door” while searching, according to the police report. The suspect was gone by the time officers from the Minneapolis Police Department arrived. The incident is being treated as a burglary.

Police stopped a car on the 3100 block of West 58th Street for driving without headlights or a rear license plate. Officers smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and a search of the car recovered a quantity of the drug and “drug paraphernalia.” The driver and front-seat passenger, 18-year old Bemidji residents, were cited for narcotics violations and driving without a valid ID, while the rear two passengers, both 16 years old, were cited for narcotics violations and being out past curfew. 

Officers patrolling near Lake Calhoun came across two ECCO residents attempting to light off what the police report called “mortar-style fireworks” near the intersection of Humboldt Avenue South and West 31st Street. The pair were cited for fireworks possession and marijuana possession.

While patrolling the Lyn-Lake area, two officers saw a car pull out and “take off” down Lyndale Avenue South, driving erratically and with tires “squealing,” according to the police report. On stopping the car, both occupants got out. Officers detected a strong smell of marijuana from the driver. Both were cited for narcotics violations and released.
