Burglar Breaks Into Kingfield Home, Chokes Woman

Police say Hakeem Anene Okolie forced his way inside the home and assaulted several people who were working on renovations.

A Minneapolis man has been charged with burglarizing a Kingfield home after allegedly breaking in and, inexplicably, trying to throttle one of the occupants.

Hakeem Anene Okolie, also known as Anene Hakeem Okolie and Hakean Awele Okolie, 30, is charged with second-degree burglary, a felony with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, compiled by Minneapolis Police Sgt. James Jensen, police were called to a home in the 4300 block of Aldrich Avenue South just after 11:30 a.m. April 2 to investigate a reported burglary.

When they arrived, they spoke to a woman who said she was working with other people on renovating the home. While the group was working that morning, she said, Okolie tried to get into the house.

The victim and several other people tried to barricade the door, but Okolie forced his way inside, then grabbed the woman by the neck, lifted her off the ground, pushed her and hit her, according to the complaint.

The victim said Okolie also shoved some of her co-workers before leaving the house.

Police subsequently tracked down Okolie and arrested him. The criminal complaint offered no reason or explanation for Okolie’s alleged actions.

Okolie is free on a $40,000 bond. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled May 8 in Hennepin County District Court.
