Linden Hills Resident Calls Police for $2 Theft

A roundup of burglaries and other property crimes in Southwest Minneapolis over the last week.

On July 22, a resident of the 2700 block of 39th Street West called police to report that $2 in change and a pair of glasses was stolen from his convertible, which he had left outside overnight. The caller asked dispatchers to make sure officers were finished with their investigations within a few hours, when their child’s birthday party was set to begin.  The report states that the caller told the responding officer that he was “very unhappy due to a spike of crime in the area.”

At 1 a.m., officers on patrol in Tangletown arrested one 21-year old for burglary and cited one 14-year old Minneapolis resident for violating curfew. Officers discovered the pair in a garage on the 4900 block of Stevens Avenue South.

A resident of the 3600 block of West 44th Street reported a plant had gone missing overnight several days before.

July 24

A garage on the 4800 block of Garfield Avenue South was broken into when the homeowners left their fence gate open and the side door to the garage unlocked overnight. Two bikes were taken down from ceiling-mounted racks, but were left on the floor of the garage.

A car stolen from the 3400 block of Aldrich Avenue South was discovered by the victim’s wife while officers were speaking to the victim himself.

The resident of the 3500 block of Bryant Avenue South reported his car was stolen between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.

A car was reported stolen overnight from the 3700 block of Stevens Avenue South. The victim had left his wallet in the car, and a credit card from the wallet was used—presumably by the thief—several hours after the reported theft.

A garage on the 5200 block of James Avenue was broken into overnight.

An employee of the Cub Foods on the 5900 block of Nicollet stopped a Minneapolis resident from walking out the door with a cart full of groceries that had not been paid for.

A canoe was reported stolen from Thomas Beach

A 19-year old Minneapolis man admitted to punching out the window from a business on the 100 block of 58th Street West.

A resident of the 4400 block of Upton Avenue South and a Duluth resident were cited for burglary, prescription fraud, aiding an offender, and narcotics violations

A car parked on the 4600 block of Abbot Avenue South was broken into overnight.

 

July 23

A car was stolen overnight from the 5500 block of Nicollet Avenue South.

A bike and a box of golf balls were stolen from a garage on the 4300 block of Wentworth Avenue South around 7:40 a.m. Both items were recovered in the alley behind the house.

Officers on patrol in Windom stopped and checked the IDs of a man standing next to a parked car on the 5600 block of Lyndale Avenue South and the two other men sitting in the car and talking with him. None of the three lived in the house in front of which the car was parked.

A car inside a garage on the 5300 block of James Avenue South was broken into overnight.

 

July 22

A car parked by the Lake Harriet Bandshell was broken into overnight.

between 11 p.m. on July 20 and 7 a.m. on July 21. A bike valued at $2,000 was taken.

A car parked near the corner of West Calhoun Parkway and Richfield Road was stolen while the driver went fishing in the lake.

A cellphone was stolen from a teen while he prayed in between basketball games at the Blaisdell Avenue YMCA.

from the front garden and porch of two houses on the 4600 and 4700 blocks of Vincent Avenue South.

A car was broken into on the 3800 block of Washburn Avenue South.

 

July 21

A group of unknown suspects left their bicycles in the alley behind a garage on the 4800 block of Pleasant Avenue South. Suspects broke glass on the garage’s side door, letting them unlock the door from the outside.

A garage on the 3300 block of Humboldt Avenue South was burglarized for the third time in recent weeks.

A garage on the 4900 block of Stevens Avenue South was burglarized overnight.

A car parked near the Lake Harriet Bandshell was broken into and a purse was taken from underneath the passenger seat.

 

July 20

An Uptown resident was robbed at gunpoint on the 3700 block of Elliot Avenue South shortly before midnight on July 17.

A garage on the 4600 block of Aldrich Avenue South was broken into overnight.

A car parked on the 4000 block of Colfax Avenue South was stolen overnight.

A car parked near the intersection of Queen Avenue South and Linden Hills Boulevard was broken into and a purse left on the floor of the passenger side was taken.

A bicycle was taken overnight from an unlocked garage on the 3800 block of Xerxes Avenue South.

A car on the 3500 block of Fremont Avenue South was broken into and its glove box was pried open.

An iPhone 4S was stolen overnight from a car parked outside a house on the 4500 block of Dupont Avenue South.
