Gunshots Turn Out to be Rocks

A resident of the 5900 block of Washburn Avenue South was sitting in her bedroom around 8 p.m. when she heard her window shatter. Thinking it was caused by gunfire, she called police. On investigation, though, it turned out that someone had thrown a rock through her window.

The victim told police she suspected her current boyfriend might be to blame, as he had threatened to break out the windows of her house earlier that day.  She told police she had recently gotten a restraining order against the man, although the order had not yet been served. No-one was able to spot the person who had broken the bedroom window, however.

After police left, the suspect presumably returned to the victim’s house and broke out every other window in the dwelling, for a total of 10. The police boarded up the house’s windows as the victim would not return to the dwelling that night to secure it.   

Sept. 19

A resident of the 4700 block of Garfield Avenue South reported to police that a would-be car thief seemed to have been scared away from finishing breaking his van on the night Sept. 16. He told police that the van, parked in the alleyway behind his house, had its door lock punched out by a screwdriver, but the culprit seemed to have been scared off by motion-activating security lights, as nothing seems to have been removed from the van.

A driver on the 3600 block of Stevens Avenue South was cited for driving with expired tabs.

A fifth-degree assault was reported on the 5600 block of Lyndale Avenue South.

The owner of a storage unit in an apartment building on the 3500 block of Nicollet Avenue South reported the unit was broken into sometime in the last month.

A resident of the 3700 block of Harriet Avenue South reported that her former boyfriend continued to call her, text her, and come by her residence despite her requests that he leave her alone.

A car parked on the 3200 block of West Calhoun Parkway was broken into around 2:30 p.m.

A residence on the 4400 block of Nicollet Avenue South had a screen on one first floor window cut during the day, but nothing appeared to be missing.

A resident of the 3700 block of Grand Avenue South told police her laptop was stolen from her couch in the 15 minutes she was gone on an errand. She said she may have accidentally left her front door unlocked.

A resident of the 3800 block of Nicollet Avenue South said a houseguest stole a Playstation and rent money during his stay.

A resident of the 5000 block of Garfield Avenue South reported that an unknown person entered their open garage door some time in the last two days and stole a bicycle.
