Elderly Man Mugged in Kingfield

A roundup of crimes reported to the Minneapolis Police Department Feb. 26-28.

Feb. 26

A 74-year old man was mugged by a passenger in his car while the vehicle sat at the intersection of West 39th Street and Garfield Ave South. The suspect forcibly relieved the man of his wallet and car.

Burglars struck a home on the 3100 block of 1st Ave South overnight.

Thieves visited a car driven by a 67-year old Robbinsdale woman, while the vehicle was parked at the Lake Harriet Bandshell.

A shoplifter at Cub Foods was booked into the Hennepin County Jail after routine checks showed the 31-year old Shakopee woman had two outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants. The police report did not specify which county had issued the warrants.

A woman reported her infant's diaper bag—containing the birth certificates for both her children and the social security card for her infant, along with her photo ID, $200 in cash, and a $50 phone card—had gone missing after she left it on a Metro Transit bus at the intersection of 31st Street and Nicollet Ave.

A 23-year old woman pulled over for a traffic violation was also cited for simultaneously carrying a small amount of marijuana.

A 52-year old man was arrested at home on the 3700 block of Bryant Ave South and booked into the Hennepin County Jail for an outstanding felony warrant from Anoka County.

Police arrested a 22-year old man at home on the 3100 block of Pleasant Ave South and booked him into the Hennepin County Jail on an unspecified warrant issued by an unspecified county.

A 34-year old woman called police to report her ex-boyfriend had assaulted her around 8 p.m. The suspect was gone by the time police arrived, and the victim declined medical treatment.

A 31-year old man from the 5800 block of Emerson Ave South reported a stranger had called him around 9 p.m. and threatened to kill him. Police advised the man have the phone number the mystery caller used blocked.

A car parked on the corner of West 31st Street and Emerson Ave South was broken into overnight.

Feb. 27

Overnight, bandits made off with a car parked on the 3200 block of Garfield Ave South.

A 29-year old man fled police on foot after he was pulled over for a traffic violation. The man was booked into the Hennepin County Jail "as forced had to be used" during the arrest. The police report did not specify what kind of force was used, but the man required unspecified medical treatment upon his arrest.

Feb. 28

A Lyndale resident reported her husband's car had been stolen from the 3300 block of Blaisdell Ave South overnight. This was not the first time the car had been taken.

Police arrested a 16-year old boy on rape charges in a house on the 3300 block of Lyndale Ave. South. The teen was booked into the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center.

A resident of the 4500 block of Lake Harriet Parkway reported one of their garden lights had been stolen and the other heavily damaged during the previous week. Several other homes in the area have reported similar crimes this week.

Overnight, a thief stole a backpack out of a car parked on the 1300 block of West 42nd Street.

Police monitoring traffic at the intersection of West 50th Street and Xerxes Ave South at 8:30 a.m. pulled over a car for driving with a burnt-out tail light. The driver, a 16-year old boy, was cited for driving with a suspended license and for being out of school. Police contacted the boy's father and transported the boy to school.
