Southwest Minneapolis resident Michael Robert Funk, 23, has been charged with felony fifth-degree drug sales after police say he was observed making a drug transaction.
According to the criminal complaint, a Minneapolis police officer was working in plainclothes near 7th Street South on Nicollet Mall downtown when he saw a man, later identified as Funk, make a hand-to-hand transaction with another man. Police suspected that the transaction involved marijuana for money.
Prior to the transaction, Funk reportedly said, "I got dro" to the suspected buyer, which is the street name for hydrophonic marijuana, according to the complaint.
Funk was later arrested and found to have two baggies of suspected marijuana, which field-tested positive and weighed-in at 1.2 grams.
In a post-Miranda interview, Funk stated that he did in fact have a small amount of marijuana and wanted to make a few dollars so he could buy some food at Taco Bell.
The maximum penalty for the charge is up to 5 years in prision and a $10,000 fine.
