UPDATED: Armed Murder Suspect Sought in South Minneapolis

Darnell Xavier Vaughn is wanted in one Missouri murder and a suspect in another.

Update 9:48 a.m. 9/7/12: Vaughn has turned himself into Minneapolis police by calling 911, according to a statement from the department.

"Minneapolis Police officers from the First Precinct responded to 3rd Avenue South and South 11th Street and took Vaughn into custody without incident" at 4:30 a.m. Friday morning, the statement said. "Vaughn was a threat to law enforcement as he had made statements that he intended to resist anyone who tried to arrest him. Vaughn was believed to be armed though no firearm was located when he was arrested."

Original Story 10:54 p.m. 9/6/12: Late Thursday night, the Minneapolis Police Department issued an alert asking residents to be on the lookout for a Missouri man in connection with at least one murder. 

According to police spokesperson Sgt. William Palmer, Ferguson, MO police contacted Minneapolis police Thursday for help locating Darnell Xavier Vaughn. Vaughn is wanted in one murder in the St. Louis, MO area and is a suspect in another.

Palmer said investigators believe Vaughn was in south Minneapolis Thursday afternoon and are asking residents to keep an eye out for the man.

"Vaughn is thought to be armed and will pose a threat to anyone who might confront him," Palmer said. "Anyone who has information as to Vaughn’s location now or any other information that might assist investigators in locating him is asked to call 911 imediately."

Palmer said Vaughn is five feet, 11 inches tall, weighs around 200 pounds, and is 29 years old.
