Burglars Caught In The Act Across Southwest

A roundup of burglaries and other property crimes committed in Southwest Minneapolis during the last week.

It was a bad week for burglars in Southwest Minneapolis.

On March 25, Jonathan Daniel Ryan and an underage female were cited on the 5200 block of Vincent Avenue after a police officer saw Ryan breaking into a car. Ryan was cited for tampering with a motor vehicle, and the juvenile was cited for theft. 

Then, on March 26, a Lynhurst resident caught a burglar in the act at his home on the 5000 block of Bryant Avenue. The resident discovered the burglar in his garage, and the burglar fled.

A resident of the 3300 block of Blaisdell Avenue returned to his home to find a window smashed in and work tools missing.

March 26

A Windom resident was robbed near his home on Wentworth Court. The robber implied she had a knife and removed cash from the victim’s pant pocket.

A suspect was arrested after East Harriet resident’s car window and sunroof were broken with a belt, causing about $3,000 in damages, while it was parked on 31st Street.

Two Brooklyn Park residents were cited for scrapping on the 5700 block of Xerxes Avenue after a citizen complained that people were scrounging around in garages and yards.

It’s the that a theft has been reported at the Blaisdell YMCA. A Minneapolis man reported that his locker was broken into and two debit cards stolen. The victim was notified by his bank that the thief attempted to use one of the cards at the Lake Street Kmart.

Charles Reggial Wright of Minneapolis was placed under citizen’s arrest after there was a theft of groceries from the Cub Foods on Nicollet Avenue and 60th Street.

Police responded to a reported assault on 32nd Street near East Calhoun Parkway and found a New York City resident who was “very lethargic and out of it,” according to the police report. Police saw blood coming out of the New Yorker’s nose and small cuts and scrapes on his head, but he was unable to furnish details on the attack.

Elwood Warwick Lucas of Eden Prairie was booked into county jail on a Hennepin County felony warrant after officers parked on Grand Avenue and 46th Street noticed him run a stop sign.

A resident of the 5500 block of Aldrich Avenue reported that her vehicle was stolen from her attached garage.

A 12-year-old boy was hit by an object thrown at him from a moving vehicle near the intersection of 50th Street and Morgan Avenue.

A resident of the 5700 block of Nicollet Avenue said that a possession of his was taken and pawned without permission.

March 23

A 23-year-old female Shakopee resident said that a man exposed himself on the 6100 block of Sheridan Avenue.

Deshenna Jackson of Minneapolis was booked into Hennepin County jail after fleeing on foot from an officer trying to apprehend her for an Anoka County warrant.

A resident of the 3200 block of Blaisdell found his garage broken into by a burglar who pried off sideboards to enter the building. The burglar took three car amplifiers, three subwoofer systems, a Sony home theater system and a tool box and splashed motor oil on the workbench area before leaving.

A resident of the 4300 block of Dupont Avenue found his bike stolen from his backyard. It was propped against the garage and the resident was asleep during the theft. Three other bikes nearby were not taken.

A vulnerable adult’s cordless landline phone was stolen from her room at Walker Methodist Nursing Home.

A St. Paul resident was taking a walk around Lake Calhoun with his friend when the side window of his truck was broken and his girlfriend’s purse was stolen. He had parked his car near the intersection of 36th Street and East Calhoun Parkway.

While a Minneapolis resident was volunteering at her grandson’s reading program at Burroughs Elementary School, someone smashed the right front window of her car, which was parked across the street from the school, near Lynhurst Park.
