10-Year Old Breaks Up Burglary

Two burglars had just cut the screen on a window on the 100 block of West 62nd Street around 9:30 a.m., when they discovered the condominium they were assaulting was occupied—by a 10-year old.

According to a report filed by officers with the Minneapolis Police Department, the 10-year old is the son of the condominium’s owners. A K-9 team was called in but was unable to track the suspects.

While searching the area for suspects, officers discovered another condominium that had been broken into in a similar manner between 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Three televisions, a laptop, and an Xbox were confirmed stolen.

Oct. 15

Around 8 p.m., a Fridley man was arrested on the corner of West 38th Street and Bryant Avenue South and booked into the Hennepin County Jail on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for receiving stolen property.

A house on the 100 block of East 49th Street was broken into between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. A television and coin change were taken. Police determined the criminal entered by breaking open a basement window.

A residence on the 300 block of West 59th Street was burglarized between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. The culprit entered by cutting the screen on an unsecured window.

A car parked on the corner of Lyndale Avenue South and West 31st Street was broken into while its owners took in the Lynn-Lake nightlife.

A car parked on the 3300 block of Colfax Avenue South was broken into between 9:20 a.m. and 11:50 a.m.

A driver parked on the 3300 block of Hennepin Avenue South reported their car’s tires were slashed between 8 p.m. on Oct. 12 and 7 a.m. on Oct. 13, while they were visiting their mother.

A 54-year old man was cited for fifth-degree assault after spitting in a neighbor’s face. The neighbor performed a citizen’s arrest and detained the man until police arrived.

A car was pulled over on the 3400 block of Nicollet after patrolling officers noticed its muffler was extremely ineffective. The driver was cited for driving after having their license revoked.

A car double parked and blocking a driveway on the 3300 block of Stevens was pulled over after officers checked its license plate against state databases and its owner’s name came up as having a suspended license. The car’s driver matched a description of the owner. The driver was cited for driving with a suspended license.

A car on the 5800 block of Xerxes Avenue South was pulled over for not stopping at a stop sign. Routine checks showed the driver’s license was revoked.

Officers followed a car cruising up and down alleys behind the 3400 through 3600 blocks of Stevens Avenue South and behind the 3600 block of Nicollet Avenue South. When officers pulled the car over in the alleyway behind the driver’s house, the driver could not produce current proof of insurance. According to the police report, the driver “became a bit uncooperative and talked back after receiving citations and several of his friends showed up at stop location. Friends were also belligerent towards officers.”

A second car cruising the alleyways behind the 4300 and 4400 blocks of Stevens Avenue South with an empty car trailer in tow were pulled over. The driver could not produce proof of insurance and were so cited after being advised that only service vehicles and residents of any given block were permitted to use alleyways. The driver said he was looking for houses that might have “junk cars” that they would be willing to sell.

Officers responding to a two-car collision at the intersection of 31st Street and Nicollet Avenue South cited one of the drivers involved for driving without a valid license.
