Want Company When Biking To Work?

Thursday, the Twin Cities celebrate Bike to Work Day.

Thursday is supposed to Bike to Work Day in Southwest Minneapolis and across the Twin Cities. However, with temperatures climbing into the low 80s, and a chance of rain in the forecast you'd be forgiven for not wanting to be the only soul showing up to your job damp from either.

Good thing there are some celebrations that day, where you'll get to hang out with other virtuous souls. Tell that to your car-borne coworkers who raise an eyebrow when you plunk a helmet down tomorrow morning—it's your ticket to a party, all part of .

  • Downtown Minneapolis: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Outside the Hennepin County Central Library, check out new bicycle-themed stamps being publicly shown for the first time and hobnob with Mayor RT Rybak. While you're at it, why not grab lunch from a food truck on Marquette Ave?
  • Bloomingtion: 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. At the Bloomington REI, get your bike's brakes and tires checked, and enjoy food, music, and a chance to win a free bike. Not a fan of those huge almost-highways near REI? Hop on a Metrotransit bus instead.
  • St Paul: 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Get to Rice Park early enough to watch the sun rise, then stay for breakfast snacks, coffee, and entertainment from the Twin Cities Unicycle Club.
  • Anoka: 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. If you're the brave—and fast—cyclist who can get up early enough to make the 25-mile trek to the Anoka County Government Center by 7:30 in the morning, my hat's off to you. "Light refreshments" and bike gear gift packs will be provided.

Do you normally bike to work? Why or why not?
