A D'Amico Kind of Wow

Edina's D'Amico & Sons. Good food, great service and endless wine. Salute!

When I heard that Patch was going to kick off some new blogs, and then found out that I was going to get to play a role, I began racking my brain for a big “wow.”  I thought to myself that if I was going to be included in a blog launch and if I were going to be allowed to regularly voice my opinion on local restaurants and other food-related stuff on a regular basis through said blog, I had better start thinking because I need a doozy to kick things off.

I thought of or Barrio.  Or maybe ?  Oh, I know!  Tilia!  No wait, how about ?  Oh wow.  So many choices!  What a hardship, right?  Hmmm…where to eat?

After some more contemplation I started thinking about where I regularly go. Where do I love? This is a whole different direction than what’s new and what’s hot, but perhaps just important.   Now here’s the honest truth.  Nowadays, when I think of eating out, I think of my family. Unless, of course, it’s date night for my husband and I, but that’s a little rare. And when things get hectic and crazy, which they do frequently in our house, we head straight for . I’m sure lots of you are already familiar with D’Amico. I mean, all roads lead to D’Amico, right? At least if you’re on France or 50th. So, when life gets harried and we have to be at t-ball, karate and swimming all on the same evening, that’s where we go.

There are many reasons, not the least of which during a winter and spring like we’ve all just endured is the warming and comforting Tuscan Pot Roast. With the dollop of horseradish on the side, it can’t be beat, and when one is picturing the weather about to warm up (fingers crossed), it doesn’t hurt that it must be low in carbs, right? At least if you give the mashed potatoes to one of your kids.

On the regular menu, I really like the spaghetti, which is served with meatballs that are huge and perfect every time. My daughter can’t get enough of the meatballs and that’s fine because the portion size on that dish is more than enough to share with a little one. One of my other personal favorites is the Neapolitan pizza because I never tire of the combo of basil, tomato and mozzarella, and I recently found out that my 1-year-old is also a big fan when she amused other diners by continually pointing at my pizza and yelling “that”, indicating I wasn’t cutting it up quite fast enough for her. Speaking of my kids, D’Amico is an easy in-and-out dinner that is family and kid-friendly with just enough happy ambiance that I am not embarrassed to be seen in Edina again if one of them melts down during dinner, and hey, we all know it happens.

Lastly, after a few nights of the chaos that comes with a busy family, you just can’t beat the endless glass of wine that you can order with your dinner.

D'Amico is also offering a Springtime Wine & Dine special, but only through May, so hurry up!  With the deal you get a salad, a pasta of your choice and the above mentioned lovely, endless glass of wine all for $14.99.

I haven't been to the other locations, and there are other locations, but speaking just for the Edina location, the service can't be beat, which is also an added benefit when a head-spinning day has you sinking in to your chair to enjoy just a few moments of dinner and have someone else do the work.

Now, perhaps a restaurant that we all already know and love is a different “wow” factor than I originally intended, but more often than not, these days, a perfectly comfortable, delicious, affordable, stress-free dinner with my family is my kinda wow.
