Marianna Padilla teaches students to eat local in the wintertime through storing, freezing, and drying food.

When many think of preserving food, their first thought is canning. Marianna Padilla teaches students to preserve foods through storing, drying, and freezing, methods that involve less salt and sugar and leave the fruits and vegetables closer to their natural states.

Padilla held a class this past Tuesday to teach students the basics of preparing and storing food to last throughout the winter. Through her methods of preservation she puts up enough produce to feed two people and host cooking classes until her garden starts to yield fresh produce again the following spring.
