Edina

Film Festival to Feature Minneapolis Talent

The
3rd
annual Edina Film Festival, a benefit for the Edina Art Center,

returns to Landmark's Edina Cinema on November 7, 8 & 9 with a

film lineup featuring Minneapolis talent:  Minneapolis photographer/director Keri Pickett, Minneapolis writer/director/producer John Gaspard and Minneapolis native (now living in LA) Brian James Crewe.

To
kick off the Festival, Keri Pickett will encore he award winning

documentary The Fabulous Ice Age. Lace
'em up for a glamorous glide through a century of theatrical skating.
Meet entertainment legends like Sonja Henie, Gloria Nord and "spiral"
inventor, Charlotte of Berlin. Enjoy first-class, rink-side seats for
spell-binding productions which toured the world and tantalized
audiences of all ages. Keri Pickett,a native of Charleston, SC, is a

Moorhead State University graduate whose awards, grants, fellowships
and other honors are impressive testimonials to her photographic
works, writings and this, her first feature-length documentary. The
film was named "Best of the Fest" (Minneapolis/St. Paul
International Film Festival) and was runner-up for "MN Made
Audience Favorite." Pickett has been praised for providing

viewers and readers with deeply-moving, from-the-heart portrayals.
Her uncle, Roy Blakey, photographer and former skater, provided
insight and inspiration for "Fabulous Ice Age." His
personal collection of theatrical ice-skating memorabilia, the most
extensive in the world, is housed at The IceStage Archive right here
in Minneapolis. Keri and Roy will be at the screening on Thursday
November 7th
for Q&A .

Ghost Light.  Halloween
may be over, but our fascination with ghosts and bump-in-the-night
frights haunts us year around. In this "backstage

story,"co-writer
and director, John Gaspard, mixes up a spooky suspense-filled
scenario spiked with romance, comedy and of course, surprises. You
may recognize Theater in the Round arena stage and one or more of the
other 40 rooms/spaces housed in this unique Minneapolis building.
"Because we were shooting in a working theater," notes
Gaspard, "we had to schedule around rehearsals and performances.
It was a race against the clock to complete the film while existing
set was in place. No re-shoot opportunities."The result has been
described as a fun, funny and touching exploration of experiences

which really haunt us. Gaspard's blogs and books on low-budget
film-making provide information, incentive and inspiration for movie
makers as well as film and theater students. He grew up in
Minneapolis and graduated from the University of Minnesota. John
Gaspard and the cast of Ghost Light will participate in Q & A
following the film.

Plenty
of buzz about Minneapolis native, Brian James Crewe once he began

collecting awards coast to coast for writing, editing, and producing
film features, documentaries, commercials and even a zombie cult
classic. A graduate of University of Southern California's School of
Cinematic Arts, Brian jokes about "practically growing up at
Southdale." Now a Los Angeles resident, Crewe's film Far is credited for
presenting what could be a typical "boy meets girl tory"

in a most atypical manner. If you can equate romantic with quirky,
mysterious with surreal, you're in the groove for a refreshing,
engaging 20 minutes with Hannah and David. Actors, According to
short film specialist, Larry Richman. 'Far' is one of the best
candidates for a full-length movie I've seen this season." Crewe
celebrates 2012 and 2013 awards for "Best American Short Film."

Brian will answer questions following the screening.
