Week in Review: The Roots of MLK Park, Property Tax Increases and Possible School Board Shenanigans

A city council decision that paid down property taxes with neighborhood organization funds and an in-depth profile of a controversial dog park highlighted our coverage this past week.

Much attention was paid to last week's collapse of the Metrodome. As we dug out from last weekend's blizzard, Southwest Minneapolis juggled a number of other important issues.

One of the wonkier issues we've covered since we launched last month was the city council's  last Monday to remove  from neighborhood organizations. The plan avoids the complete cuts that were originally proposed.

In past weeks, we've covered the debate around whether an off-leash dog area should be installed in Martin Luther King Park in Kingfield. Contributor Sheila Regan dug deeply into the stories of some people who oppose the dog park and came out with a  that spans past civil rights struggles in the city. Contributor James Sanna wrote an  looking at a controversy that arose when new Minneapolis Public School Board members wrote letters to sitting board members on the teachers' union's letterhead.
