In the midst of thunderstorms and cool temperatures, it might seem odd to be starting the weekend with a heat wave warning.
This morning, the National Weather Service announced an Excessive Heat Watch for Minneapolis and surrounding areas, as temperatures are expected to stay in the mid- to high 90's through Tuesday. Overnight low's are expected to be in the 70's and 80's.
"The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible," the Weather Service warned.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, stay in cool places, and to check in on elderly relatives and neighbors.
