The Week That Threatened Hatmakers and Property Taxes

Last week ended with a bang as the a transfer of funds that would pay down one percent of the 2012 property tax. The proposal was shepherded through the process by Southwest Council Member Betsy Hodges.

In my favorite piece of the week, Alison Nowak compiled a history of the 1890s bike craze in Minneapolis. Among the interesting tidbits in this one, laundry-mats and hatmakers were worried it would put them out of business. 

In an update to a recent story on Burroughs Community School students' effort to Ashle Briggs Horton tells us how much they made and charts how they also inspired a Montessori school to take part. Heartwarming.
