Letter to the Editor: Level Three Sex Offender Moving to Armatage

Minneapolis City Council Member Betsy Hodges and Armatage Neighborhood Association Vice President Alisha Strowbridge wrote this letter to the community about the situation on Monday.

Neighbors –

Today, the Minneapolis Police Department will announce that a Level 3 sex offender is moving into Armatage neighborhood. The Minneapolis Police Department will release more information shortly, but what we have been told is that the offender is moving into the 55th and Penn area and that his convictions were twenty years ago for two offenses committed against adult women. In addition, we have been told that he is not wanted for any crime.

Neither the police, the City, nor your neighborhood organization have legal authority to direct where a released offender may or may not live. But we can give assistance by providing information and helping establish lines of communication. In addition, the Minneapolis Police SAFE Unit may be contacted at 612-673-5407 to assist you in forming block clubs and receiving information on crime prevention.

Whenever a sex offender moves into a neighborhood in Minneapolis, there is a community meeting to provide as much information as possible to neighbors -- that meeting will be at 7pm on Monday, March 21st at Armatage Park. We will be attending the meeting to learn more and be available for questions moving forward. Until then, please contact the sex crimes tip number at 612-673-2817 for more information. Please contact your neighborhood organization or Betsy Hodges’ office (information below) if you have other questions.

Thank you for your continuing commitment to your neighborhood.

Sincerely,

Alisha Strowbridge
Vice President, Armatage Neighborhood Association
