(Lake Harriet's latest ice-out day is the same as Calhoun's, according to a 2002 MPRB report.)

Scillas and a few other plants just pushing through the leaf litter along the creek. Ragged grays in the sky and on the lake. Mallards along the southern shore; goose on the small island, another goose standing in the shallow water nearby. Solitary pied-bill grebe paddling and diving between the western shore and the thinning ice.

Meanwhile, guessing ice-out has reached fever pitch at Lake Minnetonka, where the official date is such a big deal it has been known to play a role in national politics (See Rachel Maddow transcript or MSNBC video clip at 1:50 mark).
