Smuckers Uncrustable Recall Doesn't Apply to St. Michael-Albertville Schools

Smuckers has recalled 72-packs of their Uncrustable sandwiches due to salmonella contamination.

Uncrustables, those pre-packaged peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, sold in the freezer aisle at your local grocer, are getting recalled from schools across the country due to possible salmonella contamination.

The J.M. Smucker Co. used peanut butter that was produced by Sunland Inc. and supplied by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in "limited production runs" of 72-count bulk packs of the sandwiches that went to schools under the National School Lunch Program, Smucker's spokeswoman Maribeth Badertscher said in an e-mail to the press last Thursday.

"Delores Helgeson, the St. Michael-Albertville School District Food Service Director checked with our supplier and our sandwiches were not affected," Dr. Jim Behle wrote in an email today. The lunch rooms in each of the districts eight buildings serve Uncrustable sandwiches as an alternative option a few times a month.
