Local Businesses Say 'I Do' to Same-Sex Weddings

Southwest Minneapolis merchants offering everything from dance lessons to cupcakes are gearing up for the legalization of same-sex marriage.

Same-sex unions in Minnesota will be legal at 12:01 a.m. Aug. 1, 2013, and some local businesses, places of worship and organizations have said yes to providing wedding-related services to the Minnesota LGBT community, including many in Southwest Minneapoils.

From flowers to honeymoon planning to wedding venues,Wedding Equality Minnesota's website lists hundreds willing to share in the festivities. The website, which is a Project 515 initiative in cooperation with OutFront Minnesota, says:

“The businesses and organizations you’ll find here have stated that they are actively seeking to provide wedding-related services to the Minnesota LGBT community.”

A dozen Southwest Minneapolis businesses have signed on, and the directory offers ways for other local businesses to add themselves. Mimi Design, at 48th and Nicollet, offers same-sex couples everything from stationary and flowers to wedding planning. Kingfield's Patisserie 46 offers catering, and Dance Tonight, at 47th and Nicollet, offers dance lessons.
