Butter Bakery Seeking Help To Move

The Lyndale favorite is moving to Kingfield.

After six years of rollicking success, is headed to new digs, a block south and a few blocks east, to be precise.

As Southwest Minneapolis Patch , the popular bakery and cafe—and winner of a —is hoping to open in a space on the first floor of , on the corner of 37th Street and Nicollet Avenue South. According to owner Daniel Swenson-Klatt, the new space will offer a more spacious kitchen, more seating (always in short supply at Butter), the ability to make ice cream, and best of all, the ability to offer mentoring programs to the new location's upstairs neighbors, who are predominantly youth tranitioning out of homelessness or foster care. The supportive housing setup is the brainchild of two local churches, Plymouth Congregational Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church, and aims to help youth "reach their full potential."

The only hitch in Butter's plans is money: they're looking for $15,000, and they're asking the community for help. Swenson-Klatt has put together a Kickstarter campaign to raise the money by Sunday, Sept. 16. As of Sunday night on Aug. 20, 10 people had pledged a combined $470 so far. The only way the cafe can get the full $15,000 it needs is if it hits its goal by the deadline—$14,999 won't cut it. No goal means no pledges need to be fulfilled.
