Bayers Hardware To Offer Groceries

Decision comes as competition talks between the Bayers and Settegren's hardware stores break down.

In an effort to compete with a second hardware store moving in to the former Linden Hills Coop location at 43rd and Upton, 90-year-old store will begin stocking groceries and fresh produce.

At Tuesday night's Linden Hills Neighborhood Council meeting, store owner Bob Bayers announced his decision to convert a portion of his small store, pending approval by the city.

Bayers said he was inspired by the success of , at 46th and Bryant.

"This will continue to bring more business to us," Bayers said. 

Following last month's decision by  to launch a new branch of their store in the former Linden Hills Coop storefront, the owners of both stores had sought to negotiate an agreement to merge the stores or help both sides coexist in Linden Hills successfully. Those talks broke down earlier this month.

Bayers has asked customers to tell him what other improvements they would like to see in his store using this online survey.
