New Weinstein Gallery Show Highlights Photographer of Stars

Mary Ellen Mark often worked behind the scenes on movie sets, photographing workers and stars alike.

The Weinstein Gallery's newest exhibition, highlighting the work of Mary Ellen Mark, is sure to delight photography-lovers, according to the Southwest Journal.

Mark worked for 40 years as a documentary and portrait photographer, as well as a "unit photographer" on movie sets. The East Harriet gallery's show includes many portraits from the latter, including shots of French actress Catherine Deneuve and scenes from the set of "Apocalypse Now."

From the Southwest Journal:

"[N]o celebrity portrait is as poignant as Mark’s photograph of Clayton Moore from 1992. She finds television’s original Lone Ranger at home in Los Angeles, sunk into a leather couch, wearing the outfit that made him famous — black mask and all. He’s nearly 80 years old, long out of the spotlight, but still inhabiting the character that made him famous."
