Community Corner

The Tiniest Community Garden

Run by the Kingfield Neighborhood Organization, this garden could grow.

At less than six feet wide and narrower than a residential lot, Blaisdale Community Garden is quite possibly the smallest such cultivated patch in Southwest Minneapolis.

However, its operators at the Kingfield Neighborhood Association have big plans for the rectangle of dirt and flowers on the 3900 block of Blaisdale Ave.

Sarah Linnes-Robinson, the association's executive director, said the group has had its eyes on the parcel since it became apparent the city would take ownership of the foreclosed land.

"We just planted the slope for erosion control," she said. "Right now, we're talking to neighbors to figure out what they want. We're pretty open to anything."

Linnes-Robinson hopes the garden will be ready to join the group's other garden, at 38th Street and Pleasant Avenue, some time next year.
