Rain Finally Closes Park Board Ice Rinks

A week of warm temperatures finally did them in.

Minneapolis' ice rinks certainly are durable things. 

After four and a half days of above-freezing temperatures—including a good bit of rain—the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board announced the closure of its ice rinks.

According to a brief announcement from the Park Board sent Friday morning:

The warm weather and rain has caused the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) to temporarily close outdoor ice rinks across the city.

The rinks will be reopened as soon as weather allows. The daily status of each of the MPRB’s 47 rinks at 22 parks can be viewed online throughout the season at www.minneapolisparks.org/rinks.

In Southwest Minneapolis, the Park Board had set up rinks at Armatage, Bryant Square, Kenny, Linden Hills, Lyndale Farmstead, and Lynnhurst Parks.

Update 11:55 p.m. 1/12/13: As of Saturday night, Southwest Minneapolis' outdoor, public skating rinks were closed. Keep up to date with rink status on the Park Board's website.
