(PHOTO) Diving Dock Returns To Lake Harriet

Missing for 15 years, then missing again.

For 15 years, the Lake Harriet diving dock was the stuff of local legend, a rumored relic of the past seen less often than the Nessie-like Minne the Lake Creature. But recently, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board re-installed the dock, to the delight of swimmers and many lake regulars.

Then, suddenly, the dock vanished. The explanation, it turns out, was fairly simple.

"The chain (anchoring it to the lake bottom) came undone last week and the chains dropped to the bottom of the water," said Park Board Commissioner Brad Bourn, who represents Southwest Minneapolis.

"We don’t know if the chain came undone by a prank," he added. "I heard there were some kids playing around with it."

Yesterday marked he dock's first day back, post-unmooring, and by all appearances, it was making quite a splash.
