Minneapolis' Urban Chickens: Everything You Need To Know

Local book store bringing in chicken expert Tuesday night.

Attention ambitious locavores! Tuesday night, make sure to stop off at the  in Linden Hills to talk chicken.

While Wild Rumpus is famous for the bevvy of animals who make the store home—including two chickens named Carl Sagan and Ethel—Tuesday night's event is not about the store's denizens. Instead, owner Tom Braun is bringing in chicken expert and author Christine Heppermann to give a beak-to-tail feathers primmer on raising Gallus gallus domesticus in an urban setting.

Heppermann will be joined by several members of Chicken-Run Rescue, an animal shelter based in Minneapolis that deals with the fallout from inexperienced, would-be city farmers. The organization is the subject of Heppermann's new book, "City Chickens."
