From 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., you should head down to Kingfield church Solomon's Porch, to hear DJ Jake Rudh, of "Transmission" dance night fame, spin at SoAlive, a dance party and fundraiser for HIV/AIDS community center The Aliveness Project. Rudh, who also hosts a Thursday night show on 89.3 The Current, has been a long-time fixture in the Minneapolis music scene. Last year alone, he won:

  • “Best DJ” from Minnesota Monthly
  • “Artist of the Year” from the Star Tribune
  • “Best FM Radio Personality” from CityPages
  • “Best DJ” from CityPages magazine, based on reader votes (Rudh has also won this for the last 10 years in a row)

Organizers expect up to 500 people will show up, so get your tickets early. The Kingfield Neighborhood Association—which organized the event to welcome The Aliveness Project to the neighborhood—is keeping a ticker of special deals being offered by neighborhood businesses if you buy an advance ticket from them. Tickets are $5 in advance, and $10 at the door.

All funds, organizers say, will go to help The Aliveness Project's campaign to renovate their future home on the corner of 38th Street and Nicollet Avenue. Total moving expenses run about $2.5 million, and the group recently announced reaching the halfway mark in its quest. As Patch reported back in 2011, the group is looking for a bigger home to provide:

better care for the people that Aliveness services. "It's going to be fantastic," Marburger said. The need for services provided by Aliveness Project has been increasing recently, Marburger said, due to the economy. The new building will mean the organization can serve twice as many people at a time.
