Coming at the height of summer, August is usually a slow month for news. Everyone is at summer camp, the cabin, or out enjoying one of Southwest Minneapolis' many neighborhood fairs

Not this time—August 2012 has provided a lot of excitement for Southwest Minneapolis. Here are our five top stories from this past month. Did you miss anything?

  1.  — National Night Out got pretty exciting for several blocks of Linden Hills residents.
  2. — A man lured two Park Police officers to the corner of Bryant Avenue South and Minnehaha Parkway with a fake 911 call. He tried to stab one officer, but was foiled by the officer's body armor. He then stabbed the officer's partner in the lower neck, and was poised to stab her again when the first officer shot the man.
  3. — Young Blaine man uses sidewalk to win bride.
  4. — US Special Operations Command helicopters started training over the city on Aug. 26.
  5. — Two were arrested in a garage in Tangletown after of garage burglaries hit Lynnhurst and Tangletown.
