Armitage To Get Free Energy-Saving Advice

Thursday night's seminar is part of a city-wide series.

After a week that saw record highs for energy consumption, Armitage residents are getting a taste of several ways they can save energy and water in their homes.

The workshop, to be held today at 6:30 PM at Armitage Elementary, will focus on small tweaks residents can make to their homes and lifestyles, said Kyle Boehm of Community Energy Services, the organizer behind these events.

Homeowners, Boehm said, will also have an opportunity to sign up for a visit by two "energy professionals" to install water-saving shower heads, compact florescent light bulbs, and other small pieces of energy saving tech. They will also be able to conduct tests on houses to see what other kinds of savings can be had, he added.

So will the measures being taught tonight actually save homeowners significant amounts of money? According to Boehm, the tips and tricks will only net someone around 300 annually. However, he said, if residents take his organization up on their offer of an "energy professional" visit, or if they hire a contractor to fix problems identified in tests on their homes, "there is a tremendous amount of greater savings potential."
