All Lighting Foundations Poured: Penn Avenue Reconstruction Update

The latest news on what's happening on Penn Avenue in Southwest Minneapolis.

Crews have been working on the first reconstruction phase of Penn Avenue South between Highway 62 and 54th Street since April.

The following is the latest e-mail update from the Minneapolis Public Works Department:

Penn Avenue S. Phase I Reconstruction Update September 10:

Sidewalk installation is complete.

All foundations for the new lighting have been poured.

Black dirt has been installed and graded; boulevards and areas of disturbed behind the sidewalk are ready for new sod.

UPCOMING EVENTS

The City of Minneapolis will begin installing light poles this Saturday between W 60th and W 62nd.

The City of Minneapolis will place the final lift of asphalt from just south of W 56th to just north of W 54th.

Sod installation has been delayed and is rescheduled to start later next week, and will take about 5-7 days.

There will continue to be parking restrictions between 7 am and 4:30 pm. Monday – Saturday.

OTHER

To provide a safe work environment during these final operations, there will some partial and full roadway closures while the work is happening.

Once the manholes are raised, be aware that they will be approximately 2” high until we place the final lift of asphalt.

MnDOT is pouring the bridge deck today they are anticipating completion in October.
