Have you or a loved one ever the heard the words, “you have cancer?” Fourteen years ago my mother heard those words, “you have cancer.” Our family’s lives changed at that moment. My mother was diagnosed with lung cancer at age 54 in 1999 and she passed away in 2004. I was with her every step of the way during her cancer journey. I promised my mother I could continue her fight in the fight against cancer. In continuing that promise to my mother, I have participated in the American Cancer Society’s Third Cancer Prevention Study (CPS-3). I would like to spread the word about this live saving study.
Residents of our community have an unprecedented opportunity to participate in cancer research this year. Enrollment for the American Cancer Society’s third Cancer Prevention Study (CPS-3) will be taking place at the Midtown Global Market in partnership with Allina Health on November 5, 2013. To schedule your appointment and /or get more details, visit www.cps3globalmarket.org.
Individuals between the ages of 30 and 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer (not including basal or squamous cell skin cancer), and are willing to make a long-term commitment to the study are encouraged to sign up. Those who choose to enroll will simply fill out a comprehensive survey about health history, provide a small blood sample (to be collected by certified, trained phlebotomists) and provide a waist measurement. Participants will periodically be sent a follow-up questionnaire for the next 20 to 30 years.
If you aren’t eligible to participate, you can still make a difference by spreading the word about the Cancer Prevention Study-3.
