Martin Luther King Park and Recreation Center, 4055 Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis, MN | Get Directions »
FREE
Last chance to participate! Over 200 participants have already assisted in creating this new public artwork, which will be installed on the exterior of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park facility when completed. In this hands-on community art project, 10 multi-paneled “quilted” mosaics, which are interpretations of traditional textile patterns from cultural communities, are being created. The images are representational of various textile patterns from the cultural communities in our neighborhood and using the park. You can see more images here:http://kingfield.org/mosaic-quilting-project/
The goal of the Mosaic Quilting Project is to demonstrate, through visual art, the diversity of cultures in our community and celebrate their shared public space at Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park. To learn more about this project and see photos of the progress visit here!
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund, and by a grant from the City of Minneapolis Graffiti Prevention program.
