About this column:
Each week, Southwest Patch profiles a student at one of Southwest Minneapolis' schools, focusing on their achievements in the classroom, on the playing field, or outside of school. Think your student or a student you know should be profiled? Email the editor at James.Sanna@Patch.comName: Marcus Lee School: Washburn High School Main Activities: Singing and acting How'd you start: Well, my mom is Ms. Lee (The choral director at Washburn)! It runs in the family: My parents met in a choir, and my brothers are both musicians. I just love it. It's an open-minded community, and a great community to be around. What else do you do: I lettered in baseball last year, and I also play football.
Name: Leela Hart School: Burroughs Community School What she did: For the past several years, Joyce Lasser's first grade students have put on a "wax museum" where they research a famous historical figure, then dress up as them and make a presentation in character for visiting parents. True to her chosen role in the presentation as Eleanor Roosevelt, Leela Hart decided to collect donations for the NorthPoint Health and Wellness Center's food shelf while she told "museum" visitors all about the former First Lady's life and work. What else do you do: I'm on the FIRST Robotics team, I play softball, and math is my …

Then, one day I came into class and she said "You don't have to come to class today. Go down the hall and talk to Ms. Lee (the choir director)." When I got there, she had me sing "Happy Birthday" and read a few lines, and I got in …
