After a wave of burglaries hit Kingfield in Aug. and early Sept. Southwest saw a drop in crime last week. Past crime maps can be viewed here. 
June 16: The window of a vehicle parked on the 4800 block of Lake Harriet Parkway East, in Fulton, was smashed while the owner went to the park at about 4:30 p.m.  June 16: In Windom, on the 5900 block of Nicollet, police arrested a Minneapolis man on misdemeanor charges of theft and disorderly conduct. The man, 26, was intoxicated and uncooperative with police, who had to treat him with exposure to chemical aerosol after he was taken into custody. June 9: A car burglarized on the 4400 block of York Avenue South overnight. The driver's side window was broken, and someone went through papers in the glove compartment. June 9: Police were called to a suspected burglary at a house on the 4900 block of Grand Avenue South the day before. Police spoke to a 15-year-old minor but no arrests were made. June 9: Someone tried to wrench open the security door of an apartment building on the 3800 block of Garfield Avenue South, but didn't gain entry. June 9: A resident on the 3500 block of Harriet Avenue South reported that two people had cut the …
May 25: In Fulton, on the 3800 block of West 52nd Street, a resident found an abandoned bicycle. The Minneapolis Police Bicycle Recovery Unit inventoried it. The Recovery Unit stores bicycles at a warehouse. Only a small percentage of those bicycles are returned to the owners, according to the city’s website, and the city occasionally auctions them. Correction: The May 24 posting inaccurately described gunshots as occurring "west of Kingfield," it's been corrected as "east of Kingfield." May 21: At the intersection of West 38th Street and Nicollet Avenue South, in Kingfield, an 18-year old man was robbed. The man said he was seated at a bus stop when a male suspect asked to use his cell phone. The victim offered that he could send a text for the suspect. But the suspect grabbed the phone a punched the victim in the left side of his face and bolted south and then west through yards. Four other males were with the suspect, the man said, …
May 8: An 18-year-old man was assaulted near the 5200 block of Harriet Avenue South around 5:30 p.m. May 8: A thief broke into a car on the 4100 block of Lake Harriet Parkway West in the afternoon. The owner's purse was stolen. May 9: A Texas man was cited for trying to use a handicap parking permit that wasn't his at Cub Foods on Nicollet Avenue South. May 9: A 29-year-old Robbinsdale woman was cited for using a  handicap permit at Cub Foods on Nicollet Avenue South. April 30: The rear driver’s side window of a car on the 4800 block of Queen Avenue South was broken in the late evening. April 30: The front passenger side window of a car on the 5300 block of Lyndale Avenue South was broken around 10 p.m. No items were stolen. April 30: A 24-inch scratch appeared on a car on the 5900 block of Upton Avenue South. The car’s owner observed a neighbor, with whom they were having issues, walking by the car before the scratched was noticed. But they didn’t see the neighbor, or anyone else, scratch the car. April 21: A 29-year-old Kingfield woman reported that her purse had been stolen from Target downtown, where she worked. The thief charged $424 on a credit card. Police are looking into police surveillance video at the stores. April 21: A detached garage on the 4800 block of Girard Avenue South was burglarized. The thief walked through the unlocked door and took a bike and stand for stationary bicycling. April 22: A Wisconsin man who had his car stolen a few weeks ago discovered that someone had been making charges on his debit card in Southwest Minneapolis. He still has the card, but thinks …
April 13: Officers were dispatched to the 4600 block of Pleasant Avenue South to recover a car owned by a nearby Southwest Minneapolis resident that was listed as stolen. There was no key in the car, and the steering column was intact. April 13: The front passenger side window of a car parked on the 4000 block of Pleasant Avenue South was broken sometime the night before. A GPS and iPod charger were stolen. April 14: A suspected drunk driver ran into the divider at 36th Street and Nicollet Avenue South. The 29-year-old man tried to drive off but ran into a parked car. He was taken to Hennepin…
April 5: A man on the 3500 block of Aldrich Avenue looked out a window when he heard a noise, only to see a man taking shovels from his driveway. The thief drove off with the shovels. April 5: A 55-year-old woman took her mother-in-law for a walk during a visit to Walker Methodist Nursing Home. She left her purse under her jacket during th 15-minute walk. She discovered two days later that her wallet was gone.  April 6: A car was broken into on the 4900 block of Nicollet Avenue. The thief had loosened the security lights in front of the house so they wouldn't respond to motion. April 7: A …
Feb. 27: In Armatage, a cabdriver with the Skybird Taxi Co. told police his customers failed to pay him. When the driver dropped an unknown number of suspects off at an apartment building on the 5600 block of Xerxes Avenue South just after 2:30 a.m., they ran inside without paying him. The cabdriver followed the suspects inside and watched as they entered an apartment. The driver took down the apartment number and told the officer, Renee Lewis, who, “Attempted to make contact with the suspects but no one answered the door.” The police report says the case is open for investigation pending …
Feb. 13: Police were called to the 4300 block of Blaisdell Avenue to investigate a burglary. There are no suspects. Feb. 9: An apartment on the 3600 block of Lyndale Avenue South was burglarized between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. Police are investigating further. Feb. 9: The front license plate was stolen off a car parked on the 4100 block of Pillsbury Avenue the night before. The victim only noticed it was gone because there was a citation on the window. Police recommended she just get new license plates. Feb. 8: A license plate was also stolen off a car on the 4100 block of Grand Avenue sometime in …
Jan. 24: At the Walgreens off Lyndale Avenue and 54th Street, employees reported that suspects attempted to shoplift shampoo, toiletries and toilet paper. When employees confronted the suspects, they fled in a red Ford Windstar van. Police inventoried a store DVD of the suspects. Jan. 26: In Windom, officers noticed a vehicle traveling into oncoming traffic before turning into a gas station, the Valvoline off 58th Street and Lyndale Avenue. This blotter covers only a fraction of police reports filed in Southwest Minneapolis from Dec. 6-20. All details come from Minneapolis Police Department reports. Dec. 6: Police were called to the 5500 block of Nicollet Avenue to investigate an attempted break-in through the home's south side window. Dec. 6: About a week before this report was filed, La Chaya Bistro's security alarm was tripped. When police arrived to the Nicollet Avenue location, they found the area clear. Nov. 27: Police noticed that a car without the disability parking placard was parked in the disabled parking spot at Cub Foods on 59th Street and Nicollet Avenue. When they investigated, a man came out of the store and showed police his wife's disabled parking ID. He said he was using the ID because he had cut his finger. He was ticketed.  Nov. 27: A burglary occurred on the 5200 block of Chowen Avenue in Fulton on Nov. 23. These accounts are a sampling of police responses that were reported from Nov. 4-16. All details come from Minneapolis Police Department reports. Nov. 16: A victim left Room 12 of the Metro Inn Motel to go on an errand, leaving a friend and dog behind, who also then left for a quick walk.
