It is hard to find a person these days who doesn't have at least one tattoo. Males, females, teenagers—they all seem to have some kind of ink. Small stars, crosses, butterflies, tribal, oriental, in memoriam, there are so many to choose from. Then once you choose your tattoo, or design, where do you put it? Do you pick your shoulder? Your back? So many decisions to make. So Patch wants you to post photos of your favorite tattoo(s). We want to hear why you picked the tattoo you chose and its meaning to you. Kingfield Organizations to Unveil 'Mosaic Quilt' Saturday
People ages 2 to 97 participated in the joint Southwest Senior Center and Kingfield Neighborhood Association project.
After six months of work, the Southwest Senior Center, which is part of Volunteers of America-Minnesota, and Kingfield Neighborhood Association will unveil its "Mosaic Quilt" art project at Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park Saturday afternoon. Get a sneak peek at the work in the photo box to the right. According to a VOA-MN release, volunteers from age 2 to 97 contributed to the public art project, which was funded by the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council and a City of Minneapolis Innovative Anti-Graffiti Micro-Grant: More than 300 volunteers contributed an estimated 1,500 hours gluing, grouting and polishing thousands of pieces of glass to create ten mosaic panels, reminiscent of quilts. Southwest HS Sophomore Wins Congressional Art Competition
Grace Miller's artwork will represent Minnesota's Fifth District in a yearlong exhibit at the U.S. Capitol. Another Southwest High School student, Marissa Nicol, placed third.
Two Southwest High School students were among the top three in An Artistic Discovery, the annual Congressional Art Competition among students in Minnesota's Fifth Congressional District. A Shadow's Offering by Southwest sophomore Grace Miller placed first and will hang on exhibit at the U.S. Capitol for one year. liya Tourville of Fridley High School placed second and Marissa Nicol, also from Southwest High School, placed third. The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) continues a new free indoor movie series that will take place Tuesday evenings at Central Green Gym, 3400 4th Ave. S Minneapolis. The series will continue through April with films beginning at 7:00 p.m. Stop in and enjoy a free movie on the big screen. The indoor movies series is an extension of the popular Movies in the Parks series that takes place outdoors June through August in regional and neighborhood parks.
