Looks like Kingfield residents aren't going to be the only ones with new sports facilities to enjoy this summer.

On Tuesday evening, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board representatives and Linden Hills Neighborhood Council members Chris Maddox and Patrick Sarver dug golden shovels into the dirt next to the Linden Hills Park tennis courts to mark the launch of the project's final phase.

“It’s great to see such demand for tennis in Minneapolis, and once these courts are turned around, this will be a beautiful place for youth and adults to play again,” said Sixth Park District Commissioner Brad Bourn.

Money for the project came from a diverse array of sources, including donations from Linden Hills residents, the Park Board coffers, Hennepin County, and the United States Tennis Association.

The courts will be resurfaced and given new fencing and net posts.
