You look at the clock. It's a little after noon, and you still haven't made reservations for your Valentine's Day dinner. Sweat starts beading on your forehead as you frantically look through the phone book for the numbers of any neighborhood restaurant that might still have a table.
Wait! Don't panic! We've already done the legwork for you!
The pickings are, naturally, getting kind of slim for a romantic dinner date for two. Neighborhood favorites like Cafe Maude, In Season, Cafe Ena, Cave Vin, Piccolo, or Trattoria Tosca are full up, but as of press time, here's what we uncovered as we called around this morning.
Act fast, though—the next person to call after us could have snapped up one of these times:
La Chaya Bistro: No dinner spots available but they do have a 2:00 p.m. and a 3:00 p.m. open in case you'd like a romantic late lunch.
Grand Cafe: It's a similar situation at the Grand Cafe, with only a 2:30 p.m. table available.
Victor's 1959 Cafe: Victors gets you closer to dinner with a 4:30 p.m. table opening.
Pierre's Bistro: At last! Dinner times! 5:30 p.m., 5:45 p.m., 8:45 p.m., and 9:00 p.m. tables are available
Wise Acre Eatery: 5:30 p.m., 5:45 p.m., and 8:30 p.m.
Prima: 7:00 p.m. and 8:45 p.m.
Blackbird Cafe: 5:00 p.m.
The Lowbrow: 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., but they are reserving some tables for walk-in customers.
Jack's: 5:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and several tables available at 8:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Last, but not least, there are several Southwest eateries that don't take reservations, seating on a first-come-first served basis. The wait may be long, but don't let these guys drop off your radar—at least two (Gigi's and Sun Street Breads) is creating a special menu just for Valentine's Day.
