Maude Owner Dishes On Expansion Plans

Owner Kevin Sheehy says regulars will find the familiar and the new.

As we reported Thursday morning, Cafe Maude is looking to expand. However, you'll have to go beyond our borders to enjoy their soon-to-be second location, to the former Nick and Eddie's location, on Loring Park next to Cafe Lurcat.

"We're keeping our fingers crossed, and shooting for a July opening," Maude owner Kevin Sheehy told Patch around lunchtime.

Sheehy said any Maude regular will recognize the new space, to be dubbed "Cafe Maude At Loring." A redone interior is in the works, he said, with rich jewel tones, alongside a redone menu, new craft cocktails, and live music on Fridays and Saturdays from 9 p.m. to midnight. Sheehy also has visions of lots of outdoor activities and events.

"I was a patron and used to play a lot at the old Loring Bar. Maybe you're too young to remember it, but they really utilized that alley behind the restaurant," he said. "It's Minneapolis' little slice of Paris."

The outdoor aspect might have to take a back seat to all the tough stuff that goes into opening a new restaurant, Sheehy said, but look forward to collaborations with the neighborhood association, Cafe Lurcat, and possibly with Joe's Bar and Grill.

If Cafe Maude is named after Maude Armatage the namesake of Armatage park, you would think they would name the Loring Park location after Charles Loring. Wouldn't "Cafe Chuck" be more fitting?

Haha true. Although "Cafe Chuck" makes me think of "neighbor's backyard barbecue," rather than Maude Armatage's "sophisticated leisure."
